Commentary

Seul le poids permet de distinguer dupondius ou as. Normalement, l’as est lauré et le dupondius est radié. Le problème se pose donc pour les pièces avec un buste nu. Néanmoins les auteurs préfèrent y voir un as.
Only the weight makes it possible to distinguish dupondius or as. Normally, the ace is laured and the dupondius is struck. The problem therefore arises for pieces with a bare bust. However, the authors prefer to see it as an ace

Historical background

LUCIUS VERUS

(7/03/161-02/169)

Son of Aelius, Lucius Verus, born in 130, was adopted at the same time as Marcus Aurelius by Antoninus at the express request of the dying Hadrian. During the reign of his adoptive father, he remained in the shadows and did not even receive the title of Caesar. After Antoninus' death, his half-brother immediately shared power with him, except for the titles of "Pontifex Maximus" (Grand Pontiff) and "Pater Patriæ" (Father of the Fatherland). Lucius Verus led a brilliant campaign in Armenia between 163 and 165, then against the Parthians. He married Lucille in 164 and died in February 169Lucius Aurelius Verus.
