(10/05/1774-21/01/1793) Monnaies Constitutionnelles


The Gironde department, formed March 23, 1792, declared war on April 20 the king of Bohemia and Hungary, Leopold II. Rouget de Lisle composed the Marseillaise on April 25. La Patrie is declared "endangered" on July 11. Parisians and Marseille take the Tuileries and massacred the defenders of the castle, Swiss and nobles, the king and his family took refuge with the Assembly. Louis XVI was deposed from his office and interned in Temple on August 12. Early September massacres take place in Parisian prisons, including the Carmelites, and make thousands of victims which the Princesse de Lamballe, friend of Marie Antoinette. Dumouriez and Kellermann victorious Prussians at Valmy on 20 September 1792. The news was quickly known by telegraph Chappe. The next day the Republic was proclaimed and the monarchy abolished at the first meeting of the Convention. Dumouriez defeated the Austrians at Jemmapes November 6 and occupies Brussels. The trial of the King starts on December 10. On 17 January, he was sentenced to death by one vote and was guillotined January 21, 1793.
