Historical background

LOTHAIRE

(12/09/954- 02/03/986)

From 954, Lothair Aquitaine gives Hugh the Great and tries to fight against the rise of feudalism. He eventually fell out with Hugues Capet (956-987 Duke, King 987-996), son of Hugh the Great, because it is more powerful than his lord. At the beginning of the reign of Louis IV (936-954), a new monetary reform would change the size of funds from 360 pieces per pound of 18 ounces.
