Historical background

MONGOLIA

Homeland of the great conqueror Ghengis Khan who will submit China and a large part of Siberia and Central Asia, Mongolia is a Chinese province when in 1946, under the protection of the USSR, it becomes independent. In 1960, it became a people's republic. The territory is essentially composed of steppes, pastures and the Gobi Desert. The economic activity is above all agricultural and pastoral in spite of numerous mineral riches. Until the collapse of the USSR, the country had a strategic importance with the presence of many Soviet troops.
