LIMOUSIN (GENTRY AND TOWNS OF...)

Straddling Corrèze, Creuse and Haute-Vienne, Limousin was first inhabited by the Lémovices. In the 9th century, it belonged to the counts then dukes of Aquitaine and passed to the Plantagenêts when Aliénor married Henry II. Conquered under Charles V, Limousin was attached to the royal domain by Henri IV. The main town is Limoges.
