Obverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.
Obverse description : Tête à gauche, un bandeau devant les cheveux, un collier au cou ; la chevelure est traitée en trois mèches partant en arrière ; globule isolé derrière le cou et début de grènetis (concentrique au listel) au-dessus de la tête.

Reverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.
Reverse description : Sanglier enseigne à gauche surmontant une hampe en forme de T bouleté.

Commentary

L’étude de cette série semble avoir été largement négligée. Bien que ce potin soit assez rare, il en existe de nombreuses variétés.

The Leuques are mentioned only once in the Gallic Wars. Their neighbors were the Médiomatriques, the Lingons and the Séquanes. The Leuques as well as the Séquanes and the Lingones provided Caesar with wheat when the Roman army stopped at Vesontio (Besançon) to refuel before facing the Germans of Ariovistus (58 BC). Caesar (BG. I, 40).
