Obverse description : Tête ceinte d’un bandeau à gauche, la chevelure indiquée par trois mèches, le cou par trois petits traits.

Reverse

Reverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.
Reverse description : Sanglier enseigne à gauche, le corps en forme d’arche, la tête et la queue formées par une prolongation du jet de coulée ; hampe en forme de croix partant du centre de la ligne d’exergue.

Commentary

Les pattes du sanglier sont bouletées, de même que le centre de la ligne d’exergue où est posée la croix légèrement désarticulée.

The Leuques are mentioned only once in the Gallic Wars. Their neighbors were the Médiomatriques, the Lingons and the Séquanes. The Leuques as well as the Séquanes and the Lingones provided Caesar with wheat when the Roman army stopped at Vesontio (Besançon) to refuel before facing the Germans of Ariovistus (58 BC). Caesar (BG. I, 40).
