Commentary

Exemplaire issu du médaillier Franklin qui met à l’honneur le tableau de Sandro Botticelli : La naissance de Vénus (e.1486). Scène tirée de la mythologie gréco-romaine, Vénus est née de la mer. Elle est la déesse de l’Amour et de la Beauté. Botticelli s’inspira de Simonetta Vespucci pour réaliser cet immense tableau (1.725x2.785 m). Il est conservé à la Galerie des Offices à Florence.

Théoriquement, le poinçon crabe est censé indiquer un titrage à 800 millièmes.
