THE CONVENTION

(21/09/1792-26/10/1795)

The Republic was proclaimed on 22 September 1792 by the Convention. France declares war on England, Holland and Spain in February and March 1793. The first coalition against France is composed of England, Holland, Austria, Russia, Spain, Prussia, Austria and Savoy. The French annexed the Rhineland and Basel. Dumouriez, beaten Neerwinden March 18, impeached, passes to the enemy. March 10, 1793, the Revolutionary Tribunal is established, then the Committee of Public Hi April 6. Marat was assassinated by Charlotte Corday July 13, 1793. The end of government Girondins 31 May and 2 June brings judgment and execution on October 31. This is the beginning of the federalist movement in the province. Marseille is August 25 and October 17 Lyon. The Vendee, who took Saumur on June 9, crashed in Cholet on October 17. The levee en masse is decreed on August 23. On September 5, the Convention establishes Terror.
