Exemplaire sur un flan large, ovale et irrégulier bien centré des deux côtés. Beau portrait de Julia Domna. Frappe un peu molle au revers. Très jolie patine de médaillier avec des reflets mordorés et bleutés irisés. Conserve l’intégralité de son brillant de frappe et de son coupant d’origine

Obverse description : Buste drapé de Julia Domna à droite, vu de trois quarts en avant, la chevelure en tresses, ramenée derrière la tête (L).
Obverse translation : "Iulia Augusta", (Julia augusta).

Reverse legend : VESTA - MATER.
Reverse description : Vesta voilée et drapée assise à gauche, tenant le palladium de la main droite et un sceptre transversal de la main gauche.

Commentary


Poids léger. Type inhabituel. C’est seulement le deuxième exemplaire que nous proposons à la vente en vingt ans. Ce type semble beaucoup plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages généraux.

Augusta (194-217)
