JULIUS CAESAR

(13/07/100-15/03/44 BC)

Julius Caesar was born in 100 BC, belonged to the party of Marius and opposed very young Sylla. He was praetor in 62 BC, before training with Pompey and Crassus in the First Triumvirate 59 BC, the year of his consulship. He then received a proconsul imperium in Gaul, renewed 54. He fought Vercingetorix at Alesia Gergovie then. Besieged, the Gallic chieftain had to go. Crassus was killed at Carrhae in Mesopotamia in 53 BC, Caesar was angry with Pompey and marched on Rome in 49 BC In 48 BC, at Pharsalia, he crushed Pompey fled to Egypt where he was murdered. Caesar then had to face the son of Pompey and the Pompeian party. He defeated at Thapsus (Africa, Death of Cato of Utica) in 46 BC and Munda (Spain, death Gnaeus Pompey). Caesar was assassinated on the Ides of March (15 March 44 BC) by Cassius and Brutus. He was deified after his death in 42 BC.
