Historical background

BP jetons and tokens

1968

The treasure of the Kings of France is the title of an advertising campaign launched by the company BP (British Petroleum) in 1968 to stimulate the sale of gasoline in its service stations. This advertising campaign centered on the numismatic/gasoline couple is surprising today. However, in its time, it was a great success that left indelible traces in the minds of many children, who were thus converted forever to numismatics... 1 token was distributed for each additional tank of gas of 20 liters. The display made it possible to store the 20 tokens, and a color educational accompanying booklet was provided free of charge. 20 tokens copying the most remarkable coins of French numismatics. The BP company, buoyed by the success of this first advertising series, renewed the experience by creating two new series, "The Treasure of Ancient Coins" and "The Treasure of Pirates"..
