Superbe exemplaire, avec un droit de bon style, parfaitement centré et de frappe vigoureuse. Revers un peu décentré, mais complet.

Cet exemplaire provient de la collection Raymond D. (1948-2017), il a été acquis auprès de PESCE, Lyon, en avril 1993 (6.000 fr). Il est indiqué “collection A. P.” Analysé par A. Pol, ce triens CMM 15538 est titré à 88% d’or.

Commentary

Toutes variantes confondues, G. Depeyrot recense 18 exemplaires avec la légende GABALORVM associée à un revers avec deux lettres autour du calice, dont un dans le trésor de Sutton Hoo. Seulement trois exemplaires sont passés en vente ;chez Bourgey en mars 1912, Schulmann en avril 1912 et Ratto en mars 1936..

Between the destruction and the fires, Javols was gradually depopulated. During this time, Mende developed around the tomb of Saint Privat, and Banassac with its mints. If Javols could possibly accommodate the bishopric of Gévaudan, it is almost certain that during the High Middle Ages it was in one of the two aforementioned cities. This episcopal seat will subsequently bring a lot of wealth to Mende, at the expense of Javols in particular, which we then forgot was the capital of Gévaudan..
