Commentary


Médaille pour la béatification de Rose de Lima.
Isabel Flores de Oliva en religion Rose de Lima (1586-1617), canonisée en 1671, est la première sainte du Nouveau Monde. Elle est fêtée le 30 août jusqu'en 1970, puis fêtée le 23 août, sauf au Pérou où elle est encore fêtée le 30.

Giulio Rospigliosi, (né à Pistoia le 27 ou 28 janvier 1600 – mort le 9 décembre 1669), pape Clément IX du 20 juin 1667 au 9 décembre 1669. Élu le 26 juin 1667, il fut le médiateur dans les guerres de succession entre la France, l'Espagne, l'Angleterre et la Hollande par la paix d'Aix-la-Chapelle dite "Clémentine"..

Born in Pistoia in 1600, Giulio Rospigliosi was a literate man who loved the arts. He entered the service of the Barberini family, from which Pope Urban VIII came. In 1667, he succeeded Alexander VII. During his short reign, he embellished Rome with the commission from Bernini of the angels of the Ponte Sant'Angelo and the colonnade of the Vatican. His diplomatic activity is important in particular for his mediation for the Triate of Aix-la-Chapelle which puts an end to the Spanish War of Devolution..
