Commentary

En 1797, suite à l’invasion des États Pontificaux par les troupes françaises, de nombreuses villes proclament la république. Le 17 novembre 1797, la République Ancônitaine est proclamée à Ancône, port sur l’Adriatique. Elle est réunie à la République Romaine le 7 mars 1798.
In 1797, following the invasion of the Papal States by French troops, many cities proclaimed republics. On November 17, 1797, the Anconitan Republic was proclaimed in Ancona, a port on the Adriatic. It was united with the Roman Republic on March 7, 1798.
