Commentary

Il s’agit de la frappe uniface du revers de la monnaie d’un demi Scudo frappée pour la République Piémontaise en 1799, an VII, an I de la République Piémontaise. Sans doute frappée avec les coins d’origine, il est difficile de savoir s’il s’agit d’une frappe de démonstration ou d’une frappe d’essai.

ITALY - PIEDMONT REPUBLIC

(1798-1799)

On December 5, 1798, France declared war on the King of Sardinia and on the 8th, French troops occupied Turin. The Piedmontese Republic was proclaimed on December 10 but only lasted six months. The weak French garrison, locked up in Turin, must surrender to General Souvarov, commander of the Austro-Russian armies. After the victory of Marengo (June 14, 1800), Piedmont returns again to France.
