ITALY - FERRANTE I GONZAGA

(1507-1557)

He was Duke of Ariano from 1532 to 1557, Prince of Molfetta from 1529 to 1557, Count of Guastalla from 1539 to 1557 and Viceroy of Sicily from 1535 to 1546. Son of Francis II of Mantua and Isabella d'Este, he was married in 1534 to Isabella de Coupe, the only heiress of Don Ferdinand, Duke of Termoli and Prince of Molfetta. Among his children, there was notably Caesar (1530-1575) who was Count of Guastalla, Prince of Molfetta, Duke of Amalfi, who succeeded Ferdinand I and married, in 1560, Camilla Borromeo; Ippolita (1531-1563), who married Fabrizio Colonna (1525-1551), prince of Paliano then Antonio Carafa, duke of Mondragona.
