Ce teston est frappé sur un flan irrégulier. Exemplaire ayant été astiqué et présentant une rayure à l’arrière du bonnet de Louis d’Orléans. Le droit a été frappé avec un coin présentant une cassure sur le premier E d’AURELIANESIS

Commentary

Monnaie de la plus grande rareté représentant Louis XII avant son accession au trône de France. Il s’agit de fait de la première monnaie représentant le portrait d’un roi de France.

Louis d'Orléans was born in 1462 from the union of Duke Charles d'Orléans and Marie de Clèves. In 1465, he succeeded his father under the regency of his mother. In 1476, he married Jeanne, daughter of King Louis XI of France. He minted coins in Asti with the title of "Duke of Orléans" until 1498, the year of his accession to the throne of France under the name of Louis XII..
