C’est la première fois que nous proposons ce type qui semble beaucoup plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages généraux.

Historical background

ISAAC I KOMNENOS / COMNENUS

(1184-1191)

Related to the Comnene family, grand-nephew of Manuel I (1143-1180), he revolted against the tutelage of Andronicus I (1183-1185) and created a kingdom for himself on the island of Cyprus, which he kept for seven years until Richard I the Lionheart (1189-1199) king of England during the third crusade seized the island on behalf of the Crusaders. Issac ended his life as a prisoner while Cyprus was offered by the English sovereign to the deposed king of Jerusalem.
