Obverse description : Buste à gauche, la tête diadémée, une étoile devant le nez ; légende autour et listel.

Reverse

Reverse legend : PPAVCIHBTNCH.

Reverse description : Victoire à droite, sur une ligne d'exergue pointée, tenant un croissant, avec une étoile à huit rais devant elle et un sautoir derrière elle, juste au-dessus de la ligne d'exergue ; légende circulaire.

Commentary

La légende du revers serait assez peu lisible sans la description du n° 5333 du Belfort, en raison d’une double frappe et d’un écrasement partiel de la légende entre 10 et 5 heures.

During this period, still poorly defined, many triens imitating the Byzantine coins of Justinian were minted. The strikes are first quite close to the prototypes, then escalate. They are imitated in the Frankish kingdoms of Burgundy. The imperial titulature there is very quickly altered. The qualifier "lost loop" which characterizes the ribbon of the tiara has become common to designate these coins.
