Les plâtres préparatoires de cette médaille sont conservés au musée Carnavalet ; le droit par Raymond Joly et le revers par René Baudichon. Médaille frappée en 1983, comme indiqué sur la tranche.

L'École de Barbizon désigne le centre géographique et spirituel d'une colonie de peintres paysagistes désirant travailler « d’après nature ». L'appellation tient son nom du village de Barbizon, situé en lisière de la forêt de Fontainebleau (Seine-et-Marne), autour duquel certains artistes peintres affluèrent pendant près de cinquante ans entre 1825 et 1875..

The news of the capitulation of Sedan provokes the revolution of September 4, 1870 in Paris.
