Historical background

Hostilia

(48 BC) Lucius Hostilius Saserna

Lucius Hostilius Saserna was from Cremona in Cisalpine Gaul. He owed his career to Julius Caesar he had followed throughout the Gallic War (58-50 BC). In the fratricidal struggle between Caesar's and Pompeii, he remained faithful to Caesar and participated in the siege of Marseilles. He served in Africa and is mentioned by Cicero as a friend of Antony and Octavian. He entered the Senate.
