Historical background

HERACLIUS and HERACLIUS CONSTANTIN

(22/01/613-4/07/638)

Heraclius was prefect of Africa since the reign of Maurice Tiberius. With his son, also named Heraclius, he rebelled against the tyranny of Phocas. Sedition broke out in the summer of 608 and quickly Héracliides contrôlèrent Carthage and Alexandria and Cyprus. October 4, 610, Heraclius landed at Constantinople overthrew Phocas and put him to death. The reign of Heraclius began badly. The Sassanids occupied Asia Minor and Jerusalem in particular. From 622, Heraclius took the offensive and Jerusalem once again became Christian in 628. Heraclius recovered the true cross, symbol of the new type of solidus. He married Martine, his niece, his second wife. She was the mother of Héraclonas, born in 626, created Caesar in 630, associated to the throne in 638. After the death of Heraclius, 11 January 641, Heraclius Constantine disappeared in turn 20 April 641. He is the son of Martine, Héraclonas, who ascended the throne. From September, Héraclonas was forced to crown his nephew Constans as co-emperor. It was introduced in October, mutilated and exiled with his mother in Rhodes.
