HAINAUT - COUNTY OF HAINAUT - JOHN II OF AVESNES

(1280-1304)

Son of Count Jean I of Hainaut (1246-1257) and Adelaide, daughter of Count Florent IV of Holland, he was Count of Hainaut from 1257 to his death in 1304. He only struck coins from 1280, the year of the death of his grandmother Margaret of Constantinople. He was Count of Holland from 1300 to 1304 and married Philippine, daughter of Count Henry II of Luxembourg, with whom he had nine children..
