Coments on the condition:
Exemplaire présentant un buste exceptionnel avec l’épaule nue bien visible. Remarquable représentation au revers. La monnaie, malgré une usure très superficielle sur les plus hauts reliefs, a conservé une partie de son brillant de frappe !

Obverse description : Buste héroïque, lauré et drapé d’Hadrien à droite vu de trois quarts en avant (A*01).
Obverse translation : “Imperator Cæsar Traianus Hadrianus Augustus” (L’empereur césar Trajan Hadrien auguste).


Reverse legend : P M TR P - COS III// SAEC AVR.
Reverse description : Hadrien drapé, debout à droite, présenté comme le génie de l’âge d’or, dans un décor ovale agrémenté des signes du zodiaque ; il tient un phénix sur un globe de la main gauche.
Reverse translation : “Pontifex Maximus Tribunicia Potestate Consul tertium// Saeculo Aureo” (Grand pontife, revêtu de la puissance tribunitienne, consul pour la troisième fois, le siècle d’or).


Revers exceptionnel et d’une rare beauté, de même coin que notamment l’exemplaire NAC, auction 92, lot 553 qui avait réalisé plus de 20000$ dans un état moindre au droit !.

(11/08/117-10/07/138) Publius Ælius Hadrianus

Hadrian was born in Italica 76. Ward of Trajan, he married 100 great-niece of the Emperor, Sabine, and had a career in the General Staff of the Emperor, especially when the Dacian campaign. In 117 he succeeded Trajan, and traveled for twenty years, visiting all of the Empire, the only emperor to have done. In 122, Hadrian visited in Spain. Childless, he chose first Aelius to succeed him in 136, but he died on 1 January 138. Hadrian then adopted on 25 February and Antonin himself chooses Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus as heirs of Antoninus. He died 10 July 138.
