Exemplaire sur un petit flan , un peu court sur les légendes. Beau buste de Gratien. Joli revers avec un plat sur la tête. Belle patine verte

Obverse description : Buste diadémé, drapé et cuirassé de Gratien à droite,vu de trois quarts en avant (A'a); diadème perlé.
Obverse translation : “Dominus Noster Gratianus Pius Felix Augustus”, (Notre Seigneur Gratien Pieux et Heureux Auguste).

Reverse


Reverse legend : VIRTVS RO-MANORVM// PCON.
Reverse description : Rome ou Virtus (la Vertu) assise de face, tournée à gauche, tenant un globe de la main droite et un sceptre long de la gauche.
Reverse translation : “Virtus Romanorum”, (La Vertu des Romains).

GRATIAN

(24/08/367-25/08/383)

Born in 359, Gratien was named Augustus at the age of 8. Having become "Senior Augustus" after the death of his uncle in 378, he had to share power with his half-brother Valentinian II and chose Theodosius to assist him in the East. In 378, he had the statue of Victory, a pagan reference in his eyes, removed from the senate hall. After the revolt of Magnus Maximus, he fled but was assassinated in Lyon on August 25, 383..
