Commentary

Poids léger. La septième émission de Rome se décompose en deux phases, l’une pour l’or et l’argent et la seconde pour le bronze. Pour l’argent, nous n’avons que des deniers.
Lightweight. The seventh issue of Rome is broken down into two phases, one for gold and silver and the second for bronze. For money, we only have denarii

Historical background

GORDIAN III

(02-03/238-03/244)

Augustus

Gordian III is the grandson of Gordian I and the nephew of Gordian II, ephemeral emperors of the year 238. At the request of the people of Rome, he is chosen as Caesar by Balbin and Pupian and succeeds them after their assassinations. Emperor at 13, married at 16, killed at 19, this is how the life of this young man could be summed up, victim of the appetites of Philippe the Arab, new prefect of the praetorium.
