Reverse description : L'empereur voilé, debout à gauche, en toge, tenant une patère de la main droite en sacrifiant au-dessus d'un trépied allumé et tenant un sceptre court de la main gauche.
Reverse translation : "Pontifex Maximus Tribunicia Potestas secundum Consul Pater Patriae" (Grand Pontife, détenteur de la puissance tribunicienne pour la deuxième fois, Consul, Père de la Patrie).

Gordian III is the grandson of Gordian I and the nephew of Gordian II, ephemeral emperors of the year 238. At the request of the people of Rome, he is chosen as Caesar by Balbin and Pupian and succeeds them after their assassinations.
