Exemplaire sur un flan large avec les grènetis visibles. Très beau portrait juvénile de Géta. Frappe un peu molle au revers. Patine grise superficielle avec des reflets dorés

Obverse description : Buste drapé, tête nue de Géta à droite, vu de trois quarts en arrière (A°21).
Obverse translation : “Publius Septimus Geta Cæsar Pontifex”, (Publius Septime Géta césar pontife).

Reverse


Reverse legend : PR-INC IVVENT.
Reverse description : Géta debout à gauche, en habit militaire, tenant un rameau de la main droite et une haste renversée de la main gauche.
Reverse translation : “Principi Iuventutis”, (Au Prince de la jeunesse).

Commentary


Ce denier est seulement drapé et laisse apparaître une épaule nue. Ce type semble plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages généraux.

Caesar

Born on May 26, 189, Geta became Caesar in 198 and received the title of pontifex the following year. He accompanies his father and his brother to Brittany from 208 and is raised to Augustat the following year. When Septimius Severus died in York on February 4, 211, the two brothers brought their father's ashes back to Rome and became co-emperors. But they hate each other. Finally, after a year of joint rule, Caracalla kills his brother in their mother's arms. Geta is dedicated to "damnatio memoriæ" (damnation of memory). His supporters are systematically massacred.
