Historical background

GERMANY - AUGSBURG

Founded under Emperor Augustus, from whom its name is derived, the city of Augsburg is located in Bavarian Swabia. In 888, the city belonged to the Episcopal Principality of Augsburg from which it freed itself to become a free city of empire in 1276. In 1803, it was annexed to Bavaria. Strikes from the city coexist with strikes from the Episcopal Principality.
