Exemplaire sur un flan très large, bien centré. Beaux buste de Gallien et de Salonine. Frappe un peu molle au revers. Belle patine verte bicolore

Marque de valeur I (10) entre Gallien et Salonine. Même coin de droit que les exemplaires du Cabinet des médailles de la BnF (SNG France 3/ 582-583, pl. 30). Semble complètement inédit et non recensé avec ce revers (Tyché).
Historical background
GALLIENUS AND SALONINA
(253-268)
Gallien, the son of Valérien I, was born in 218. He was immediately associated by his father with power and was in charge of the West, while his father went to the East. He won a brilliant victory over the Germans and consolidated the Rheno-Danubian limes. After the capture of Valérien in the East, Gallien must face on all fronts. The empire breaks up. Gaul, Spain, Germania and Brittany secede with Postum who first eliminated Salonin, the son of Gallien. It is the usurpation of Macrianus and Quietus in the East. Gallien will spend the last eight years of his life trying to put the pieces of this empire back together. Finally, he was assassinated in September 268 under the walls of Milan while besieging Aureolus, the master of the Cavalry, who had revolted. Salonine, the wife of Gallienus, seems to have received the title of augusta in 253 when her husband was associated with power by Valerian I. She lost at least two of her children, young Valérien and Salonin. She is murdered at the same time as her husband. Salonina is said to have had Christian sympathies.
