Obverse description : Tête à gauche au gros œil, la chevelure en mèches ondulées parallèles ; légende devant le visage ; grènetis.

Reverse


Reverse legend : COLIM.
Reverse description : Cheval galopant à gauche, une sorte de poisson à droite entre les pattes ; légende au-dessus du cheval ; grènetis.

Commentary


Cet exemplaire offre une tête typique de la classe II. En essayant de reconstituer les coins, à partir d'autres exemplaires ; nous arriverions à une empreinte de coin de droit d'au moins 18 mm et d'au moins 20 mm pour le coin de revers, alors même que les flans ne dépassent jamais les 15 mm.

The Leuques are mentioned only once in the Gallic Wars. Their neighbors were the Médiomatriques, the Lingons and the Séquanes. The Leuques as well as the Séquanes and the Lingones provided Caesar with wheat when the Roman army stopped at Vesontio (Besançon) to refuel before facing the Germans of Ariovistus (58 BC).
