Commentary

Suger (1080-1151) est un abbé et homme d'État français qui fut le principal ministre des rois Louis VI le Gros et Louis VII le Jeune. Il est connu surtout par ses ambitions théologiques et artistiques qui le conduisirent à reconstruire la basilique de Saint-Denis, première construction d'architecture ogivale, et à donner naissance à l'art gothique.
Suger (1080-1151) was a French abbot and statesman who was the chief minister of Kings Louis VI the Fat and Louis VII the Young. He is best known for his theological and artistic ambitions, which led him to rebuild the Basilica of Saint-Denis, the first Gothic-style building, and to give birth to Gothic art.
