In 63 BC, Cicero takes the consulate and defends Murena "pro Murena". Caesar was elected "Pontifex Maximus" (supreme pontiff). Octavian, Caesar's nephew, was born at Thurii. It is also the suppression of the conspiracy of Catiline by Cicero, "in Catilinam". Catiline died the following year. Mithridates, King of Pontus, was murdered or committed suicide after the betrayal of his son Pharnace. The bridge became a Roman province. Pompey took Jerusalem after a siege of three months.
