FLANDERS - COUNTY OF FLANDERS - JEAN FEARLESS

(1405-1419)

John the Fearless (1371-1419), son of Philip the Bold and Margaret of Flanders, succeeded his father in Burgundy in 1404 and only in 1405 in Flanders, after the death of his mother. He married Margaret of Bavaria (1363-1423). It plays a very important role at court and quarreled with his cousin Louis d'Orleans murder he left in 1407. The next twelve years are extremely complex. The Duke of Burgundy combines turn to Queen Isabella and King of England, Henry V. He fought the Armagnac faction and seized twice in 1413 and Paris in 1418. Wanting to reconcile with the Dauphin Charles, he was assassinated at the interview Montereau (1419).
