This coin celebrates the bicentenary of the Bank of Finland, founded in 1811 in Turku (former capital of the Kingdom of Finland) by decree of Tsar Alexander I. This event was a major milestone in Finland's long road to independence. The swan, the national emblem of Finland and the Finns, was thus chosen to commemorate this key event for the Finnish nation.
