Commentary

Dessiné par le graveur en chef, James Barton Longacre, le type Flying Eagle est frappé de 1857 à 1858. c’est le premier cent de petit diamètre (small cent), les cent de grande taille étant jugés encombrants les commerçants et onéreux à produire.
Designed by Chief Engraver James Barton Longacre, the Flying Eagle type was struck from 1857 to 1858. It was the first small cent, as large cents were considered cumbersome by merchants and expensive to produce.
