Historical background

CENTRAL AFRICAN STATES

(1972-)

The Bank of Central African States (BEAC) is the main monetary institution of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC). It serves as the central bank for six countries: Cameroon, the Central African Republic, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Chad. Its headquarters are located in Yaoundé. It succeeded the Central Bank of Equatorial African States and Cameroon. The Bank of France guarantees the convertibility of the CFA franc into the French franc and, from 1999, into the euro..
