Historical background

SPAIN - SUSSETANOS - BOLSKAN (OSCA / HUESCA) (Province of Huesca)

(Second century BC)

Bolskan reflects the modern Huesca, the Roman Osca. The city played an important role in provincial history after the Roman conquest, especially at the time of the revolt of Sertorius, the Roman general, born in Nursia c. 123 BC and died in Spain in 72 BC. J.-C. First Lieutenant of Marius, he cut himself a true state in Spain. Winner of Pompey, he allied with Mithridates, but was assassinated by his lieutenant Perpenna. A denier of Domitius Calvinus was struck in Huesca in 39 BC, imitating and copying for the right money Celtiberian.
