SPAIN - BARCELONA COUNTY - LOUIS XIV THE BIG OR THE SUN KING

The uprising of Catalonia (Cataluna Levatamiento) against the authority of Philip IV of Spain lasted twelve years. Louis XIII and Louis XIV, were the Counts of Barcelona. Louis XIV kept the county until 1652, at which time the capital of Catalonia was permanently lost. By the Treaty of the Pyrenees, Louis XIV abandoned Catalonia, but retained the Roussillon with Perpignan.
