En 1868, Isabelle II abdique en faveur de son fils, Alphonse XII. Mais, les Cortes prononcent la déchéance de la maison de Bourbon. Le 19 octobre 1868, le ministre des finances du gouvernement provisoire signe le décret de création de la Peseta espagnole. En 20 ans, il s’agit du quatrième système monétaire, mais celui-ci restera en vigueur jusqu’en 2002.

On October 19, 1868, the Minister of Finance of the Provisional Government signed the decree creating the Spanish Peseta.
