Coments on the condition:
Monnaie atypique, sur un flan presque carré. Les types de droit et de revers sont complets, avec une belle patine sombre dans les champs et brillante sur les reliefs

Obverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.
Obverse description : Carré creux au contour perlé et dédoublé ; les diagonales perlées et dédoublées, avec trois globules dans chacun des quatre triangles ainsi formés.

Reverse


Reverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.
Reverse description : Croix anilliée, chaque bras terminé de deux annelets.

Commentary


Ces motifs géométriques sont représentés dans les Types 30, 51, etc (cf. Metcalf, Volume 3, pages 524-536). Mais aucun exemplaire comparable à celui qui est proposé ci ne semble être publié. Cet exemplaire semble donc complètement unique.

ENGLAND - ANGLO-SAXONS

(7th - 8th centuries)

If the minting of these coins is to be located at the beginning of the 8th century, in Great Britain, it is not exceptional to find them in Gaul. They are often confused with Merovingian silver coins (cf. MONNAIES XIX, n° 503, sceattas c. 680-710, classified in Merovingian denier of Laon). During the 8th century, the style of these pieces is more and more degenerated, they are often in ridge or filled. These coins disappeared from circulation in the second half of the 8th century.
