Exemplaire sur un flan légèrement ovale. Relativement bien frappé au droit, mais frappé avec un coin de revers très usé

Cet exemplaire montre jusqu'à quel degré d'usure les coins étaient utilisés. Il est fréquent de rencontrer ces monnaies frappées avec un coin de droit ou de revers complètement usé, parfois même associé à un coin neuf pour l'autre côté.
This example shows the degree of wear to which the dies were used. It is common to find these coins struck with a completely worn obverse or reverse die, sometimes even associated with a new die for the other side.

Historical background


ELUSATES (Area of the Gers)

(3rd-2nd century BC)

Small people of Aquitaine who occupied part of the current department of Gers, corresponding to the former county of Condomois (Comdom). Their capital was Elusa (Eauze, Gers). The Elusates were subjugated in 56 BC by Publius Licinius Crassus, lieutenant of Caesar, the son of Crassus who campaigned in Aquitaine. Sources: Caesar (BG. III, 27).
