Exemplaire sur un flan ovale, bien centré des deux côtés. Beau portrait réaliste de Ptolémée au droit avec le grènetis visible. Joli revers à l’usure régulière. Très belle patine de collection avec des reflets mordorés irisés

Commentary
Sur cet exemplaire, nous avons une contremarque IS dans un carré creux dans le bas de la queue de l’aigle, un poinçon en forme de S rétrograde au-dessus de l’aile de l’aigle et deux contremarques derrière l’aigle (XV). Dans le trésor de Meydancikkale, Alain Davesne a particulièrement étudié ces contremarques et poinçons sur les monnaies lagides.
On this example, we have an IS countermark in a hollow square at the bottom of the eagle's tail, a retrograde S-shaped punch above the eagle's wing, and two countermarks behind the eagle (XV). In the Meydancikkale treasure, Alain Davesne has particularly studied these countermarks and punches on Lagid coins.

Ptolemy II succeeded his father in 283 BC but he was already associated with business before that date. Married in 288 BC to Arsinoe, the daughter of Lysimachus, he married his second wife in 276 BC his sister, Arsinoe II. Daughter of Ptolemy I and Berenice, she had married successively Lysimachus, then Ptolemy Ceraunos, her half-brother, and was deified, identified with the goddess Hathor, when she died in 271 BC. Ptolemy issued an important coinage restitution to recall his memory. During the last twenty-five years of his life, Ptolemy II completed the Lighthouse of Alexandria.
