Historical background

DAUPHINÉ - LOUIS V, LE GRAND DAUPHIN OR MONSEIGNEUR

(1/11/1661-14/4/1711)

Son of Louis XIV and Marie-Thérèse, Louis de France or "Monseigneur" was born in Fontainebleau in 1661. Prince discredited by Saint-Simon, he married in 1679 Marie-Anne of Bavaria with whom he had three sons: Louis, Duke of Burgundy; Philippe, Duke of Anjou (future Philippe V of Spain) and Charles, Duke of Berry. Cultivated and generous, he received a solid education from the finest minds of the century, he appreciates opera and the arts. Often organizer of the pleasures of the Court, he also loves hunting. Installed on the ground floor of Versailles, his apartment is a realm of collectors, admired by all. He participates in the Rhine campaign which reveals a great soldier, intrepid and good. Associated with the councils from 1691, he remained discreet but intervened in serious matters. He died in 1711, his disappearance cruelly affecting Louis XIV.
