Ce denier de poids lourd est frappé sur un flan légèrement irrégulier. La croix du revers apparaît en négatif au droit. Exemplaire présentant quelques faiblesses de frappe au niveau des légendes

DAUPHINÉ - BISHOP OF VALENCE - ANONYMOUS COINAGE
(late 11th - 13th century)
A text from 1145 indicates that the towns of Valence and Die minted coins. In 1178, Frederick I Barbarossa (1152-1190) confirms the monetary privilege of Valence to Eudes de Chaponnay (1156-1186). This privilege is again confirmed under Bishop Guillaume de Savoie (1227-1239), by Frédéric II de Hohenstaufen (1197-1250). The bishoprics of Valence and Die were united in 1276 by decision of Pope Gregory X (1271-1276). The bishops began to sign their coins from Jean de Genève (1283-1298).
