CRUSADES - PRINCIPALITY OF ACHAEA - CHARLES II OF ANJOU

(1285-1289)

Charles I of Anjou then his son engaged in haggling in order to buy the title of Latin Emperor of the East (1277) while the Byzantines took over Constantinople in 1261. Florent married the daughter of Guillaume de Villehardouin in 1289 and becomes prince of Achaea. When Florent de Hainaut died in 1297, Charles II of Anjou controlled all the Frankish principalities.
