Triens sur un flan large et régulier, très légèrement voilé avec des types complets et bien centrés. Droit un peu mou avec une frappe tréflée, mais revers de frappe vigoureuse

Cet exemplaire provient du stock Bourgey ; il a été acquis en août 1956. Il semble que ce soit le n° 357 de la vente de Bâle des 8-10 décembre 1949, estimé alors 200 Francs Suisses

Obverse description : Buste orné d’un double diadème, le contour de l’épaule indiqué d’un double cintre échelonné, une croix sur la poitrine.

Reverse description : Croix latine pattée, cantonnée de quatre étoiles ; légende autour.

Commentary

C’est le seul type de triens attribué à Courçais. Trois exemplaires sont recensés dans le Moneta (Prou 2313 = Belfort 1675 de la trouvaille de La Baugisière, l’exemplaire n° 23 de la vente Ratto du 26 mars 1926 = n° 323 de la vente Vinchon du 22 octobre 1963, l’exemplaire Belfort 1676 = n° 357 de la vente M&M du 7 décembre 1949). La seule distinction repose dans les globules en cantonnement au revers qui sont plutôt des étoiles sur le B. 1675 et sur l’exemplaire de la vente Ratto, alors que ces trois exemplaires semblent pourtant être issus des mêmes coins de droit et de revers (cf. Monetae p. 116).
This is the only type of triens attributed to Courçais. Three examples are listed in the Moneta (Prou 2313 = Belfort 1675 from the La Baugisière find, example no. 23 from the Ratto sale of March 26, 1926 = no. 323 from the Vinchon sale of October 22, 1963, the Belfort 1676 example = no. 357 from the M&M sale of December 7, 1949). The only distinction lies in the globules in cantonment on the reverse which are rather stars on the B. 1675 and on the example from the Ratto sale, while these three examples seem to come from the same obverse and reverse dies (cf.
