Commentary
L’industrie drapière de Louviers remonte au Moyen-âge. Une manufacture de draps est établie en 1681 : une sorte de draps prit d’ailleurs le nom de Louviers, on disait "en beau linge, en fin Louviers". La légende du revers se retrouve à l’Abbaye de Westminster sur l’épitaphe de Sir John Chardin (1643-1713), d’origine française et grand voyageur en Perse. Les armes de la ville de Louviers portent d'azur à la lettre L fleuronnée d'argent, enfilée d'une couronne d'or et d'azur à un lion d'or.
