Exemplaire sur un flan très large et mince, bien centré des deux côtés à l’usure importante, lisible et identifiable. Patine marron foncé

Obverse translation : "Imperator Constantinus Pius Felix Augustus", (L'empereur Constantin pieux et heureux auguste).

Reverse legend : IOVI CONSERVATORI AVGG NN/ -|DE// ANT.
Reverse description : Jupiter nicéphore nu debout à gauche, le manteau sur l'épaule, tenant un globe nicéphore de la main droite et un sceptre long de la gauche ; dans le champ à gauche, un aigle debout à gauche, tournant la tête à droite, tenant une couronne dans son bec.
Reverse translation : "Iovi Conservatori Augustorum Nostrorum", (À Jupiter protecteur de nos Augustes).

Commentary


Poids très léger. Rubans dr type 3. la couronne de laurier est triple. Ptéryges décorées. Au revers l’aigle ressemble à un cygne.

Augustus

Constantine was born in 274, son of Constance Chlore and Helena. He was named Caesar on the death of his father on July 25, 306 and was proclaimed august on December 25, 307. He married Fausta, the daughter of Maximien Hercule, who gave him five children, three of whom were augusts. The first twenty years of his reign are devoted to imposing himself as the main august against Maximian Hercules, Galerius, Maxentius, Maximin II and Licinius. He is recognized as the first Christian emperor, although baptized only on his deathbed on May 22, 337.
